The open theaters all over Greece emerge as a top and popular summer entertainment “destination”, welcoming the public with a multitude of shows and other cultural events. Although this era has been mainly identified with the staging of ancient drama, the summer theater “programme” also includes a variety of more modern works for every taste and mood.

  • The accidental death of an anarchist

The sold out performance of Yiannis Kakleas, “The Accidental Death of an Anarchist”, starts a big summer tour from July 6th. Inspired by the murder of the anarchist Giuseppe Pinelli by the Italian police, Dario Fo delivers a smart and timely comedy about the abuse of power, government corruption and the sloppiness of the justice system. A performance with demonic energy, songs, live music and caustic humor from a group of actors who act, dance, sing experientially parodying their own today through the history of the play.

The “Players”, the lovable “bagapontides” of Giorgos Koutlis, continue their summer excursion to the open theaters of Attica and Chalkida. At a remote inn in Russia, a serious card player, con artist, and forger arrives. His goal is to find his next victims and “scratch” them. But it won’t be that simple. In the same inn there are two equally bad combinadores, who shoot exactly the same thing as the first one. All the strange tenants of the inn slowly enter the game. The haunted mystery comedy of N.V. Gogol turns into a show with wild rhythms and wild humor. A situational comedy about the art of deception.

The DI.PE.THE. This summer, Roumelis “travels” us to the Athens of the Belle Époque, where people expressed their thirst for “sweet life”, with Nikolaos Laskaris’ comedy “Mallia Kouvarias”, directed by Tassos Pyrgieri. What happens when a respectable married man has to leave for a secret business under the watchful eye of a jealous wife? What is the role of the secret fortune teller who reads hairs and discovers love desires? How do three best friends and their husbands get involved? And how is a tangle of misunderstandings unraveled through a series of hilarious episodes? The old “bourgeois” theatrical language and “living room acting” is revived in a “vintage” show with stormy dialogues, repeated misunderstandings and marital jealousies.
