THE Nicolas Cage canceled his participation in the Fantasia Film Festival of Montreal, the largest festival in North America.

The American actor was expected on July 22 for the world premiere of the film “Sympathy for the Devil” by director Yuval Adler and was to receive the Cheval Noir Lifetime Achievement Award.

“We regret to announce that due to his strike SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild of America) Nicolas Cage will not be able to attend the Festival next weekend,” organizers announced on the Fantasia website.

“We will regularly update our website as we receive news from other guests as the situation develops. Our hearts go out to the actors, as well as to the Screenwriters Guild of America (WGA), and we hope to see the unions reach a fair agreement soon,” reads the statement from the organizers of the Festival.

The vast majority of actors on the Fantasia Festival guest list are Canadian. One question is whether actors from other countries or non-SAG-AFTRA members will walk out of the Festival in support of SAG-AFTRA.

The Fantasia Film Festival will run from July 20th to August 9th.
