No tangible progress for a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan was achieved today at a meeting at Abu Dhabi by the leaders of these two Caucasian countries.

Armenian Prime Minister Nicole Pasinian and Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev president met in the United Arab Emirates in the morning. After the meeting was completed, the two separate announcements were issued by their services, in which there is no indication that there was progress on the issue of reaching a peace agreement, as the two neighboring countries had agreed in March, after long negotiations.

The Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry, however, said that it was agreed to “continue bilateral negotiations” and to implement “confidence -building measures between the two countries”.

In order to sign an agreement, Azerbaijan presented a list of requirements, including the amendment of the Armenian Constitution, to include the disclaimer of any territorial claim in the Karabakh region.

Baku and Gerevan fought twice for controlling this mountainous enclave. Azerbaijan eventually captured him, expelring the Armenian separatists, into a lightning operation in 2023.

Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed the hope of quickly reaching a peace agreement between the two countries. EU leaders also expressed the same wish when they met at the European Political Community Summit hosted in Albania.
