One of the central names in the cast of the movie “Oppenheimer”, Matt Damon is not satisfied with the refusal to star in “Avatar” (2009), for over 10 years. The actor was director James Cameron’s favorite for the role of hero Jake Sully, but declined the invitation due to a scheduling conflict. Recently, he said that he also received a proposal to keep 10% of the final box office of the work.
The production is the biggest box office success in the history of cinema, with more than US$ 2.9 billion (R$ 13 billion) in tickets sold. If he had stayed with the role, Damon would have received more than US$ 290 million (R$ 1.3 billion). “I’m sure no actor has ever spent so much money”, acknowledged the actor during an interview with CNN amid the work of promoting “Oppenheimer” (2023).
The actor attributed his refusal of Cameron’s film to his commitments with “The Bourne Ultimatum”‘ (2007): “I had a contract. I was in the middle of filming ‘Bourne’ and I knew they were going to need me [em ‘Avatar’]but I needed to deliver everything until the end and I couldn’t leave the film early, I didn’t want to do that”, said Matt Damon, who has already revealed that he hates recording without a shirt.
In the current film by director Christopher Nolan, he plays General Leslie Groves, responsible for administering the program to build the atomic bombs used in World War II in the 1940s.
