David Harbor doesn’t want his career to be entirely tied to “Stranger Things.” The actor recently told Insider that when he took on the role of police chief Jim Hopper, who he plays on the show, he was warned of that risk due to the show’s unprecedented success.

“TIn the first year of “Stranger Things,” I remember having a conversation with a reporter and she said, “Maybe you don’t want to connect so much with the show,” and I said, “Why? I love this series. I love the character. But I don’t want to be just that character. I don’t want to be just that guy”».

And he continued:I remembered when George Clooney left ICU. Now we just see him as George Clooney. But there was a time when it was, “The guy from ICU doing a movie with Nicole Kidman…” I think about that a lot. It’s a funny position I’m in, one I never thought I’d be in».

Harbor added: “I’m trying to dig into some of it, and it’s hard because you don’t want to upset the people who love you for what you do and love too. But at the same time, you want to leave the nest. I have more in me. I have different things in me and I want you to see it. I don’t want people calling me “Hopper” on the street every five minutes for the rest of my life».
