The Rolex watch, presented to Jair Bolsonaro (PL), which is at the center of operations carried out by the Federal Police this Friday (11) is an item strongly linked to Hollywood films. The Day-Date 36 jewel, from the Oyster Perpetual collection, was negotiated by General Mauro Lourena Cid, father of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former assistant to the former president.
The watch has a platinum bracelet and a mother-of-pearl dial. On the brand’s website, the price is subject to consultation, but the jewel is valued by specialists at US$ 60,000 (approximately R$ 300,000). According to the PF, the general sold it for US$ 68 thousand (about R$ 326 thousand).
In 1962, the Submarine model appeared on the wrist of Sean Connery as James Bond in “007 against the satanic Dr. No”, the first feature of the franchise. The character used it again in the following films, “Moscow against 007”, “007 against Goldfinger” and “007 against atomic blackmail”.
In 1986, the Rolex Datejust, also from the Oyster Perpetual collection, was worn by Paul Newman in “The Color of Money”, a role for which he won an Oscar.
Alec Baldwin uses the Day-Date Oyster Perpetual, the same as Bolsonaro’s, in “Success at any price”, from 1992. The film also features Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Alan Arkin and Ed Harris and shows four stockbrokers real estate struggling to survive in the US amidst a shaky economy.
Watches from the Rolex Oyster Perpetual collection were also worn by Faye Dunaway in “Network” (1976), Marlon Brando in “Lives on the Run” (1960), Gabriel Byrne in “The Usual Suspects” (1995), Harrison Ford in “Frenzied Search” (1988) and Steve Martin in “Better Alone Than Badly Accompanied” (1987).
The brand also sponsors the Oscar Museum, in Los Angeles, and has director Martin Scorsese and James Cameron as ambassadors.
