Actor Sidney Sampaio, 43, said he mixed vodka with sleeping pills the night he fell from the bathroom window of a hotel in Copacabana, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro. To Domingo Espetacular (Record) he denied having depression and said that the fall was a consequence of the misuse of insomnia medication.
Sidney said he wasn’t fully lucid and doesn’t remember everything that happened. “What I remember about the event itself is being afraid, afraid to ask for help, I remember being very scared about some things, I don’t remember exactly what,” he said.
“I don’t remember exactly why I ended up throwing myself, but I think it has to do with some kind of panic I was feeling at that moment,” he revealed. “Something that was hurting me or haunting me.”
He also stated that he had a dose of vodka the night of the incident and could not sleep due to anxiety. “My sister ended up giving me the medicine she takes to sleep. I didn’t sleep right away and ended up taking another medicine,” he said. Insomnia made him look for a hotel.
According to witnesses, Sidney suffered two falls between the floors of the hotel. The incident began in the morning, when he arrived altered at the scene around 4 am. At 7 am, employees began to hear the sound of breaking glass. The Fire Department was called and sent the actor to the hospital, which confirmed that he suffered two fractures.
Sidney said he remembered the moment he fell, as the fall gave him a scare. “I remember having some concern about my legs, whether I was walking or not. I felt a very strong pain in the spine, in the lower back.”
