THE Katia Dandoulakis, beloved and excellent actress, she has carved a huge path in theatre, film and television, leaving her mark in all the roles he has been asked to play.

This year it is protagonist of SKAI’s new drama series, “The Pantheons”which is based on book of the same name by the award-winning author and academic Tassos Athanasiadis.

For Katia Dandoulakis it is not the first time he meets the “Pantheos” family. In 1977 she also starred in the first television adaptation of the book. For two years (1977-1979) she had the role of Marmos, who enters the Pantheon family as a bride and becomes the “stone of scandal”.

In the new SKAI series, she plays a completely different role, that of Chrysostomi Pantheou. Chrysostomi opposes in every way her brother’s marriage with a much younger woman.

But what does Katia Dandoulaki herself say? for the Pantheons, the role of Marmos and the proposal he accepted to embody Chrysostom?

“For me The Pantheons was a milestone.
The role of Marmos was a pivotal one, a role that marked my subsequent career path. And it is a novel that it also marked my love of television, because it is an excellently written bookwith amazing characters and an excellent plot, which is not only a plot to watch with interest but also has the social and political appeal and the great character analysis by Tasos Athanasiadis.

All this contributed to the fact that The Pantheons are one of my happiest professional moments, which was essentially at the beginning of my career. Many years have passed since then and the moment of the present proposal is coming. I knew that the series would be produced by Yannis Karagiannis and when he mentioned it to me I said that it is a series that will be very interesting to see with a fresh eye.

3-4 months ago my very beloved Spyros Michalopoulos called me, a director whom I appreciate and admire immensely, as we have worked together on many projects, and he offered me the role of Chrysostom. I was excited for him when he told me he was going to do The Pantheons because I have enormous love, respect and trust in his talent and taste and that he will be in charge of such a large and charming production. It hadn’t occurred to me that I could have a role in the new production, because in the past we didn’t see each other’s scenes and I didn’t know the character development of the amazing actors who embodied the rest of the roles. I remember that Aleka Paizi, who played Chrysostomi at the time, was excellent, but I didn’t remember the role at all, and I wasn’t sure I could do it.

Spyros Michalopoulos urged me to see it seriously because now we see a classic novel with today’s perspective of 2023. As he told me: “Chrysostomi is a woman, unmarried. The unmarried woman of that time, who for various reasons Tasos Athanasiadis had kept her like that and has a life that is developing: why did she remain single, what is it that marked her her life, how she took the reins of the family, how she keeps the balance within it – she is essentially the opposing awe of the love triangle, Andreas, Marmos and Kitsos. This is the way we see Chrysostomi and that’s why we are addressing you”.

It was a pleasant shock when I heard that, because Chrysostomi is the same character in the book but with a different management. The role has another development now, it was otherwise in a weekly series. Now, for the needs of a daily series, relationships must be developed differently, but always with respect to the spirit of the author. We have new data and this is what made this particular proposal charming, because apart from being the opposing awe and negative attitude towards Marmo that I had adored as a role, I have to support the fact why it is negative. I understood why she was against it and rightly so. Yes, many things have changed today, but even now when a man falls in love and loves in a meaningful way like Andreas Pantheos Marmo, who is 30 years his junior, everyone wonders how long it will last.

I happen to have the exact same experience in my personal life. We may have been 30 years apart, but our relationship lasted a lifetime and a very happy life at that. No one believed that the relationship between Andreas and Marmos would last, just like in my case. Right now, I have in my baggage a very substantial reason to love Marmo even more, through Chrysostom’s reaction. Because Marmo actually loved, but this is something that Chrysostomi does not know. He saw that it could be a dangerous relationship.

I am sure that the management of the characters is done with great respect from the whole team, from the production, from the director and everyone who chose an extremely careful distribution. It really moves me to see so much “pain” to decide who would be the best fit for each role, because they relied so much on the inner paths of the characters. And that for me was a big guarantee. That’s why I gladly accepted to play Chrysostom. At first I lost it, then I was fascinated and now I really do it with great emotion and I wish from the bottom of my heart that it will have the same impact as it did then and even more. I have great respect and admiration for each of the collaborators, the directors, except for Spyros Michalopoulos who leads the team, and for each of the amazing actors. I feel incredible joy about this new journey for something so, so beloved, as The Pantheons are.”

Television history is being rewritten and Katia Dandoulaki is preparing to leave her artistic mark againthis time as Chrysostomi Pantheou.
