The Public Defender of the State of Sergipe, through the Nucleus for the Defense of Human Rights and Promotion of Social Inclusion, filed a public civil action against Léo Lins for concerts he performed in Aracaju (SE) with offenses against the deaf community in 2022. presentation, the comedian compared deaf people to seals.

Last Wednesday (23), the court ruled in favor of the defender and determined that Lins delete videos in which he offends the deaf community from his YouTube channel, not just those made in the capital of Sergipe. If he does not comply, the former SBT will have to pay a fine of R$ 3,000 per day of non-compliance.

In the action, the Public Defender’s Office pleaded for provisional emergency relief of a precautionary nature, requesting the suspension of the comedian’s social networks and the exclusion of videos that refer to deaf people. The TJ-SE (Court of Justice of Sergipe) complied with part of the request, keeping its social networks on the air, but with the removal of the images.

For public defender Sérgio Barreto, responsible for the action and the prosecution in the trial that took place last week, this is a breakthrough for all people who deal with deafness. “The deaf community felt deeply embraced,” he said. “It is a great victory for democratic principles, fundamental guarantees and, above all, human dignity.”

It is not the first condemnation of Léo Lins for jokes considered offensive in his shows. In May, the TJ-SP (São Paulo Court of Justice) ordered the comedian to delete a show from his YouTube channel because of jokes perceived as racist and that made an apology for slavery.

O F5 tried to contact Léo Lins and his team, but did not get a response until the last update of this text.
