The 27th Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro denied freedom to medical student Yuri de Moura Alexandre, nominated for attacking actor Victor Meyniel due to homophobia.

The request was made this Saturday (9) and promptly denied by judge Denise Machado Paes. According to her, Alexandre committed a serious crime and is highly dangerous.

O F5 had access to the decision first hand. In her position, the judge stated that situations of this type do not come under habeas corpus.

The judge also cited the great repercussion of the images of Victor Meyniel’s face on social media. He had a large part of his face disfigured due to the attacks.

“The photo of the victim, next to the body examination attached to the file, corroborates the violence and severity committed against her”, he commented in his position.

“Therefore, the dangerousness of the person being held in custody is evidenced by the concrete gravity of the crime. This demonstrates the need to be cautious of the social environment”, concludes the decision.

The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police decided to indict Yuri de Moura after closing investigations into the attack on actor Victor Meyniel.

Alexandre will be charged with bodily harm, insult for homophobic acts and ideological falsehood, according to delegate Pablo Valentim, from the 12th DP of Copacabana. F5 tries to locate Yuri de Moura Alexandre to comment on the case.

Doorman Gilmar José Agostini, who witnessed the incident and did nothing, was also charged with failure to provide assistance. If convicted, Yuri de Moura Alexandre could face 15 years in prison.

The attacker remains in prison. “From the statements given, it was clear that the attacks began in the hallway, still inside the apartment. Even if there was an act of inconvenience, no type of act justifies such a brutal attack,” said the police chief.
