Son of Faustão, 73, who underwent a heart transplant in August, presenter João Guilherme Silva, 19, went to Brasília to try, based on conversation, to motivate parliamentarians to vote in favor of changing the organ donation law.
On his Instagram, he explained that the idea is to make everyone automatically a donor and that this only happens if they are denied.
“We just landed in Brasília. We came for a very cool cause: trying to change this legislation, talking to the deputies, senators, to see if we can change it to the presumed donation”, he began, still inside the jet.
“In other words, everyone is a donor [no caso de doação presumida], until the person decides they no longer want to be and speak out. Let’s try to change the history of Brazil and that all the people who are in line today can get an organ faster”, concluded Silva.
Brazilian legislation works based on consented donation, that is, the person themselves must authorize the donation while alive. If not, it is up to the family to decide.
On the 10th, Fausto Silva was discharged from Albert Einstein hospital. In a medical bulletin, the institution stated that he will continue with transplant treatment at home, receiving medical guidance.
“The patient will follow the necessary medical and nutritional guidelines for rehabilitation after heart transplantation”, says the note signed by Fernando Bacal, cardiologist at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein.
On Friday, doctors had already said that Faustão’s new heart had not been rejected. He was diagnosed with heart failure in early August and needed a transplant.
