Titans meet old teachers at Altas Horas

In a special program on Saturday night (23) dedicated to the band, members of Titãs met teachers from Colégio Equipe at Altas Horas (Globo), which gave rise to memories such as the song that Arnaldo Antunes wrote at the time criticizing Erasmo Dias (1924 -2010), exponent of the military dictatorship.

“It was already a preview of Nome aos Bois”, said the composer, remembering the song in which the band mentions several historical characters considered abominable. The Titãs included the name of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on the list during the “Encontro” tour.

The band was formed at Equipe, a school in São Paulo where presenter Serginho Groisman led a cultural center. Musicians Arnaldo Antunes, Nando Reis, Paulo Miklos, Branco Mello and Marcelo Fromer studied at the school. Tony Bellotto and Charles Gavin were not students but attended the school.

Another story remembered was the filming they did, already thinking about the historical record of a group that was just beginning

“We always had a desire to go on television, deal with this language”, said Nando, remembering the choreographies that the Titãs created for their presentations.

The program had guests such as singer Supla, who said he was inspired by the musicians. “There’s so much talent together that it makes you angry,” he joked. “I saw you and said: I’m going to get there.” Composer and screenwriter Fernando Salem was also in the audience, who lent his living room for the group’s debut.

Titãs said that at the beginning of their career they played to tiny audiences, with more people on stage than in the public.

Another special guest, Denis, is a fan who has attended more than 100 Titãs shows – ten on the band’s current reunion tour.

As has happened in all presentations and interviews, the Titãs paid tribute to Marcelo Fromer, who died in 2001, victim of being run over by a car. Alice, the musician’s daughter, sang and heard stories about her father, including that he was a great friend of Serginho. Max, the other son, was in the audience.

“I had great affection for him. We hung out a lot, talked about football, music”, said the presenter.

The band ended Altas Horas playing “AA UU”, one of their rock classics.
