‘Nothing can make up for the pain of destroying a family,’ says Shakira

by

Even with all the success of her recent songs and her move to Miami after her separation from Gerard Piqué, Shakira stated that she is not happy. The singer said she believes that happiness is reserved for a small group of people and that, at this moment, she is not included.

However, according to her, there are moments of happiness, reflection and nostalgia. Therefore, the music ends up reflecting what you feel. “My song at the moment feeds on that cocktail,” she said in an interview with Billboard magazine.

“I’ve been through several stages: denial, anger, pain, frustration, anger again, pain again. Now I’m in a survival phase.” The Colombian also said that she feels the difficulties of reconciling her professional life with the commitments of a single mother and that a husband is needed at these times.

Regarding the separation of a 12-year marriage and the indirect consequences that followed, Shakira says that she always believed in “until death do us part”, inspired by her parents’ 50-year marriage. Now that the dream has collapsed, she makes lemonade out of lemons. Or at least she tries.

“Nothing can make up for the pain of destroying a family. Of course I have to continue for the sake of my children. But my biggest dream, more than collecting platinum records and Grammys, was to raise my children with their father.”

“Now I can release music at a faster pace, although sometimes I feel that being a single mother and the pace of a pop star are not compatible. I have to put my kids to bed, go to the recording studio. Everything is difficult. When you don’t have a husband who can stay home with the kids, it’s a constant juggling act.”
