The exhibition “SHAME – European Stories” is a collection of 100 portraits of adult victims of child abuse from all over Europe, which capture the phenomenon of child abuse in a unique way.

The photos and videos collected in the last months by the award-winning journalist Simone Padovani for the Justice Initiative, traveling from Greece to Sweden and from Romania to Portugal, they demonstrate the injustices that were done and give a voice to the victims.

The exhibition, which is presented throughout Europe, is under the auspices of the Council of Europe and the Municipality of Athens.

JUSTICE INITIATIVE – Victim-centered justice

To this day, tens of thousands of victims suffer from the injustice and the consequences of the abuse that has been inflicted on them. Many are psychologically burdened and live in poverty because of the experience of violence.

In some European countries, efforts have been made to restore pain. In most countries, however, no serious treatment of pain from abuse has been done to date. In this context, victims’ groups, academics and civil society organizations from all over Europe have joined forces to draft a joint policy proposal. With the help of political actors, the proposal has been submitted to the Council of Europe.

The proposal calls for the truth about child abuse to come to light, it also calls for the official recognition and rehabilitation of victims and measures for prevention.
