Sharon Stone revealed in an interview that she now feels more comfortable speaking publicly about the serious health problem she faced 22 years ago. In 2001, the actress had a 1% chance of living after a brain hemorrhage she suffered in 2001. The brain hemorrhage lasted for nine days.

At the time Sharon Stone, now 65, was thriving both professionally and personally. She had received her first Oscar nomination for the film “Casino”, five years earlier. And months before, she had adopted her son, Roan, with her then-husband, Phil Bronstein. She has since adopted two more children.

“For a long time I wanted to pretend that I was fine,” says the famous actress in an interview with “People.” “I need eight hours of uninterrupted sleep for my brain medicine to work so I don’t have seizures. So I’m disabled and because of that they don’t hire me anymore. These are the things I’ve been dealing with for the last 22 years and now I’m open to talk about it,” said the star of “Basic Instinct” with disarming honesty.

After the incident, Stone went through a “dark” period: she divorced her husband in 2004 and, she says, Hollywood “abandoned” her.

Talking about the time of her painful recovery, the famous actress says that she stuttered in the early stages and could not see properly. He also reports that he suffered from memory loss for a long time.

“I lost everything. I lost all my money. I lost custody of my child. I lost my career. I lost all those things that you feel are your real identity and your life. Most of it I never got back,” she emphasizes, adding: “Now I’m at a point where I’m okay with it, but I’m also okay with myself.”

Finally, when asked how she found the courage to share her story, the actress explains: “I grew up believing that what I was supposed to do was take care of everyone else. It took me a long time to understand that I had my own life and that I didn’t have to fix things for everyone else and “forget” about myself. I feel proud of myself and proud of my achievements – from surviving to helping others survive.” Today, Sharon Stone is a board member of the Barrow Neurological Foundation.
