Tiago Abravanel, 34, opened up in conversation with Rodrigo and Laís during the dawn of this Tuesday (1st) at BBB 22 (Globo). The grandson of Silvio Santos, 91, said that he is not close to his grandfather and that he has suffered for not having invited him to spend Christmas with his family.
Son of Cintia Abravanel, 58, Silvio’s firstborn, the actor said that his mother still suffers from the distance from his father and sisters. Tiago, in turn, said that it took him 33 years to overcome the issue. “I can’t beg to be loved if I haven’t built a love, a relationship. I can only change if there is a relationship, and if there isn’t, there’s no way to change it,” he said.
The artist’s revelation left the participants gaping and practically speechless. “This is very strong. We who look at it from the outside know nothing about it”, said Rodrigo. Tiago Abravanel said that the public believes that his family is perfect, just like the margarine commercials.
“I even take a lot of courage to say this here on national television, but the truth is this. I don’t have a relationship with my grandfather and my aunts”, he commented.
“Sometimes I wish I had the intimacy to call him [Silvio Santos] and say: ‘Grandpa, can I go there and give you a hug?’ But that doesn’t exist and I felt this pain for a long time until I understood that it was okay.”
Tiago Abravanel recalled a moment that marked him forever, when he, his mother and his two sisters, Ligia and Vivian Abravanel, saw through social media that they had not been invited to spend Christmas night at the SBT owner’s house.
“When that happened I turned a page in my life. I thought why was I judging this family’s beautiful Christmas when I was never part of it?”, he said. However, the artist stated that his mother still “suffers a lot” with the distance with the other family nucleus.
Cintia Abravanel is the result of the marriage of Silvio Santos with Maria Aparecida Vieira Abravanel. The communicator was married to his first wife from 1962 to 1977, when she died. Together they also had Silvia, 50.
Silvio Santos’ second marriage to Íris Abravanel began a few years after Maria Aparecida’s death, in 1981. Together until today, the two have four daughters, respectively; Daniela, 45, Rebeca, 41, Patrícia, 44, and Renata, 37. In all, Silvio is the father of six women.
OPPORTUNITIES AND CONTROVERSY WITH PATRÍCIA ABRAVANEL
During the chat, Tiago also exemplified when he received several criticisms for taking a stand against his aunt in June 2021, when Patrícia Abravanel was accused of being homophobic on national television in the program Vem Pra Cá (SBT).
At the time, the presenter asked for more understanding with conservative people and was wrong to try to quote the acronym LGBTQIA+. Tiago Abravanel is married to a man, producer and entrepreneur Fernando Poli.
“Many people and even the media criticized me for expressing my opinion on social media. ‘Why don’t you call her [Patrícia]?. There is no such intimacy,” he said. Rodrigo said that as someone who sees it from the outside, this episode has already shown how distant and split the family is.
Tiago Abravanel also revealed that because he was not close to his grandfather, he never had benefits as an artist on SBT and, contrary to what many think, he was welcomed by the competing broadcaster, Globo. “I’m very grateful to a lot of people, but here I really got recognition,” he said.
As an actor, Tiago said that he even auditioned for a soap opera written by Íris Abravanel, his grandfather’s wife, and that he did not pass. “But people don’t know that, they think that just because I’m Silvio Santos’ grandson I gained opportunities”.
Viewers were surprised by the outburst made by Tiago Abravanel, especially due to the fact that the actor opened up to Rodrigo, with whom he rarely talks inside the house – and even indicated to the wall that takes place this Tuesday (1st).
“You are the furthest from your grandfather and you are the one who most inherited his talent as a communicator,” Rodrigo said to Tiago.
