Among the showcases of miniatures from the first ships of Aristotle Onassis and decorated with a copy of the Minoan representations that adorn the pool of the “Christina O.” – the historic yacht – the phrase that “shipping is not a science but an art. And that Aristotle Onassis was one of the most important shipping artists”. Here and there, the shipowner Peter Livanos on the podium that had been set up earlier in the Central Stage of the Roof, for the presentation of the publication “History of Onassis Businesses 1924-1975”. The mythical portrait of a businessman is created in a book published by the Onassis Foundation after long-term research by the Maritime History Center of the Institute of Mediterranean Studies of the ITE.

The file that became a book

It was in 2017 when its director, Jelina Harlautis, found herself in front of a voluminous archive of the business activities of Aristotle Onassis from 240 companies he had founded until his death in 1975.
