Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker responded to criticism that Netflix “ruined” the TV series. The anthology series originally started on the UK network Channel 4, where it aired two seasons.

English writer, TV host and comedian Charlie Brooker recently revealed that the network effectively “cancelled” the series, which led to the third season moving to Netflix in 2016.

However, the streaming platform has long been criticized for contributing to the failures of subsequent seasons of the “Black Mirror” series.

At a recent panel at the South by Southwest Festival in Sydney, Charlie Brooker addressed these criticisms, saying: “One of the criticisms we get sometimes is, “I preferred the show when it was British and everyone on it was miserable and all the stories were horrible. And then it goes on Netflix and suddenly everything is sunny and happy and everyone has great teeth and is full of Hollywood stars and has lost that edge”».

Brooker said he accepts and understands the criticism, but said: “I knew we’re on a global platform now, so we had to make these stories a little more international».

And I wanted to mix it up a bit, not just keep doing zofu marathons“, he added.

Recently, Charlie Brooker revealed that he tried using ChatGPT to write an episode of Black Mirror, which turned out to be “dumb”.

The comedian also expressed the possibility of writing a musical or animated Black Mirror episode for Season 7, noting that anything could happen.
