Rapper Drake won a prize of US$1.3 million (equivalent to R$6.7 million) in the form of cryptocurrency through a successful bet. According to Exame, the artist bet US$850,000 (around R$4.2 million) in bitcoins and focused on the boxing fight between YouTuber and fighter Logan Paul and boxer Dillon Danis.
So far, Drake has not publicly commented on this victory, but the considerable amount received in bitcoins marked a significant turnaround in his series of losses throughout 2023. In February of this year alone, the rapper had lost R$1.5 million in a bet involving another boxing fight, this time starring Jake Paul and boxer Tommy Fury.
This time, the singer, boldly, bet that Paul would knock out Danis, a prediction that, considering the athlete’s history, was seen as unlikely. The fight took place on October 14 and, to the surprise of many, it ended in a less unfavorable way for Drake, as Danis was disqualified, resulting in Paul’s victory. At the time, there was the interpretation that Drake had lost the bet and the US$850,000, which even led to a joke from Danis himself on Twitter.
The boxer mocked the rapper with the comment: “I’m sorry you lost your $850,000, Drake. Never bet against this guy.” However, the rules of Stake, the virtual casino where Drake places his bets, establish that a victory by disqualification is considered a technical knockout, which means that the singer, in fact, was victorious in the bet.
