Presenter and journalist Tiago Leifert, 41, went to his Stories to thank him for the support he has received after the disclosure of his daughter Lua’s diagnosis of retinoblastoma. The communicator also revealed that he has already received several messages from parents who sought medical attention after the video made with his wife, Daiana Garbin, 40.

“We got the first early diagnosis of retinoblastoma thanks to the Moon video,” he said. “A mother went to the doctor because of the video, she recognized some symptoms and the child has early stage retinoblastoma.”

“That was the goal, we achieved it. There is a lot of work ahead and we still intend to save many children with Luazinha, with the power of the Moon. It worked, we achieved the first!”, he added, in the videos published this Monday. (1).

Journalists Tiago Leifert and Daiana Garbin revealed last Saturday (29) that their 1 year and three-month-old daughter had been diagnosed with eye cancer, retinoblastoma. The disease affects the retina region. Through Instagram, they decided to alert other parents.

According to them, it was in October 2021, close to the anniversary of Lua’s first year, that they discovered the disease after Tiago noticed a white light in the girl’s eye. He also noticed that she was looking at him a little sideways and preferred to take her to a professional.

“It is a very rare cancer that happens in very young children. Thus, they cannot express that they can’t see anymore. The Moon has always seen everything and we never imagined that something was preventing her vision”, said Diana.

Lua was diagnosed with bilateral cancer, with both eyeballs affected. It is the most common intraocular tumor in childhood. It affects one in every 18,000 children and its incidence worldwide is 8,000 new cases per year, 400 of them in Brazil.

The disease can be inherited from one of the parents, in 25% of cases, or be the result of a new mutation, which occurs in 75% of the cases. There are other factors that something wrong may be happening to the child, such as when he makes repetitive movements with his eyes and head to try to see better. Enlarged eyeball is also another sign.

There are also several types of treatment and this will depend on the stage of diagnosis. When parents find out early, in the first months of life, and there is preservation of the eyeball and part of the vision, as is the case with Lua, intra-arterial chemotherapy can be performed, the medication being placed directly in the eyes in a non-invasive way. so invasive. That’s why Lua’s hair is preserved.
