Accused of attacking actor Victor Meyniel in his building on September 2, student Yuri de Moura Alexandre was released by the courts and had his preventive detention revoked. The decision was made by judge Flávio Itabaiana de Oliveira Nicolau, head of the 27th Criminal Court of the Capital.
According to him, Yuri cannot maintain any contact with the actor and will have to wear an electronic ankle bracelet. He also cannot leave the country.
An instruction and trial hearing was held on Tuesday (7) in which the student and Meyniel appeared. Eight witnesses also gave statements, five of which were listed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and three by the defense. Then, the defendant, Yuri de Moura Alexandre, was interrogated.
The magistrate understood that it would not be necessary to keep the defendant in prison because he had a fixed residence, was a first-time offender and had no history of trouble. Thus, his freedom would not pose a risk to society.
The attacks suffered by the actor were recorded by a security camera in the building where they both lived, in Copacabana, south of Rio de Janeiro.
Yuri became a defendant two days after the MPRJ (Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor’s Office) formalized a complaint for bodily injury, insult due to homophobia and false identity.
The actor claims that he was spending time with the medical student when the boy’s behavior changed with the arrival of his friend, who, according to him, was on duty that day, which allowed Meyniel to be present in the apartment. Alexandre became aggressive and allegedly pushed the victim out of the apartment.
At the reception, Meyniel would have asked what caused Alexandre’s change in behavior. “What happened, no one knows you’re gay?”, the actor reportedly said. Then Alexandre beat Meyniel.
