Netflix actor reveals brain cancer diagnosis: ‘I intend to recover completely’

Barton Cowperthwaite, 31, shared with his social media followers that he had been diagnosed with glioma, a rare type of cancer of the central nervous system. The actor, who had small roles in series such as “Girls5eva” and “Fosse/Verdon”, is best known for Netflix’s “The Price of Perfection” (“Tiny Pretty Things”).

“So… Yesterday I was diagnosed with at least stage 2 glioma,” he wrote in the caption of a photo of him in the hospital. “It’s a sizable brain tumor. The tumor cells originate in the brain, and have not spread to any other part of the body.”

He added that he will need to undergo a procedure to remove the tumor soon. “The only treatment for something like this is brain surgery,” he said. “So far, the doctors are confident that they will be able to remove most of the tumor and that after a successful operation and rehabilitation, I will be functioning as my usual (amazing, talented, brilliant, funny) self.”

Cowperthwaite explained that he and his family will still hear other medical opinions, but that surgery should be scheduled for next week. “That said, it looks like exams and appointments will be part of my life for the rest of time,” he said. “I’ll do my best to be open about the journey here.”

Despite the scare, Cowperthwaite said he remains confident in the cure. “I’m planning on making a full recovery and being better than my former glory,” she wrote. “Please feel free to get in touch and I will do my best to stay connected with as many people as I can.”

In “The Price of Perfection”, the actor played the young dancer Oren Lennox, who suffered from an eating disorder. He shared an apartment with the protagonist Shane McRae (Brennan Clost), with whom he had a secret sexual relationship.
