Leonardo Volpato
It is clear that in moments when he has to report tragedies and bring bad news to the Brazilian people, William Bonner is not expansive nor does he make any kind of joke. The message is conveyed by the messenger not only through what he reads in person (with the intonation that has become one of his trademarks) but also through physiognomy and body language.
Aside from these stressful moments, anyone who knows him knows: Bonner has a unique sense of humor, he is very funny and, interestingly enough, he imitates celebrities like no one else. Birthday boy of the day, the presenter of Jornal Nacional is turning 60 (it doesn’t seem like it) this Thursday. Of his six decades of life, almost four of them were in charge of some Globo attraction, where he joined in 1986, initially to command one of the editions of SPTV.
In fact, it was at this time that he decided to change his name a little: William Bonemer Junior would become William Bonner, on the grounds that he did not want to be compared to his father. Another interesting fact about the sixty-year-old is that he already responded to a robbery when a man broke into his house, in 2005, in Rio de Janeiro. Luckily, the bandit didn’t shoot. But he attacked him. “Fortunately, the assailant kept his cool. He didn’t shoot. He only left material damage and trauma that we want to get rid of as quickly as possible,” he said at the time. Check out more facts, moments and curiosities about William Bonner below.
