The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, announced this Thursday (16) that he is separating from social scientist Irina Karamanos, with whom he shared five years of relationship. In an extensive Instagram post, the Chilean leader expressed his appreciation for his now ex-girlfriend, describing her as “extraordinary in every dimension in which a person can be understood.”
“A few weeks ago, we decided to part ways when it comes to our romantic relationship due to different views on our intimate future. However, we have decided (or rather know) that we will remain companions forever,” Boric said.
In his statement, the president also addressed messages to those he classified as “bettors of possible misfortunes”, assuring that the decision to separate is not related to involvement with other people:
“None of us have other partners, and everything was discussed in detail like two people who lived together the most intense years of their lives. We love each other infinitely and will continue to love each other,” said Boric, adding: “We know that in the coming days speculation will be to the order of the day, and although we would have preferred to live this process in private, we both understand that it is better to tell this story ourselves and let those who like to invent or project their unconfessed desires onto others be left with only their own echo.”
The couple had been together since 2019, and during Boric’s presidential campaign in 2021, Irina chose to stay out of the spotlight.
