The director of New York’s Metropolitan Opera helped the actor learn the ins and outs of conducting an orchestra to perfect his performance.
Bradley Cooper revealed that he paid particular attention to detail in his new film “Maestro”noting that he spent six years learning to conduct an orchestra for six minutes of music.
The actor and director plays the American composer and conductor, Leonard Bernsteinin the upcoming biopic “Maestro”.
The film described as “a love letter to life and art” depicts the decades-long relationship between Bernstein and his wife, Felicia Montealegre, played by Carey Mulligan.
During a Q&A after the New York screening of ‘Maestro’, Bradley Cooper spoke to the audience about the process of recreating a scene in which Leonard Bernstein conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in 1976 at Ely Cathedral – a a landmark moment in the career of the leading musician, as stated in an article in the newspaper “The Independent”.

“I was so worried about this scene because we shot it liveBradley Cooper explained to the panel moderator, the creator of the musical “Hamilton”, Lin-Manuel Miranda.
“It was the London Symphony Orchestra. It was recorded live, I had to conduct. And I spent six years learning how to conduct six minutes and 21 seconds of musicthe actor revealed.
According to IndieWire, Bradley Cooper then explained how his “wonderful teachers,” such as New York’s Metropolitan Opera director Yannick Nézet-Segian, were able to help him learn the ins and outs of conducting an orchestra to perfect the his performance.
