Salvador Dali’s home on the Costa Brava in Catalonia, Spain is now a museum dedicated (of course) to the life and work of the famous 20th century artist.

Dali bought his decade 1930a small fishing hut in the Mediterranean village Portlligat and with his wife Gala in the following decades they redesigned and expanded the building incorporating adjacent buildings.

The house of the meter “Casa Dalí” is as surreal as one could imagine: interior space like mazewith narrow corridors and alternating levels throughout, as well as differently shaped windows overlooking Port Ligat Bay, quirky exterior features along the entrance, abstract decorations and a giant egg-shaped door, a motif that appeared repeatedly in Dalí’s work.

Dali lived and worked from the residence on the Costa Brava the second half of his lifeuntil the death of his beloved Gala in 1982, creating some of his best-known works of art, inspired by the light and atmosphere of the Spanish coast.

According to architect Oscar Tusquets Blanca, a friend of the artist, Dali “claimed to be the first Spaniard to see the sun rise” when he moved to the Mediterranean village.

The residence, which now functions as a museum, is filled with furniture curated by Gala, objects collected by the couple, and works of art by Dali.
