Gustavo Poget wishes to remain at the helm of our national team, as he stated in his statements to AFP. The Uruguayan coach made it clear that he does not want to leave and explained “why” he decided to speak to the Greek press about the problem with his assistant.
“I definitely don’t want to leave here. If I speak, it is to get things done. We need continuity and consistency. What I ask of my players, I also ask of the agents. I want more, faster. That’s how we all win together”said Poget looking back on his tenure in our National Team with the goals he and the federation had set.
“When I arrived, we had three goals: to start winning again, to get people back on the pitch and to qualify for Euro 2024,” stated and added:
“A year and a half after taking office, Greece finished first in their group in the Nations League, the fans are back and the national team remains in its quest to qualify for Euro-2024.”
Poget praised Deschamps and France.
“She is the best in the world with Argentina,” the former Chelsea midfielder will find on the opposite bench Didier Deschamps, with whom he shared the London team’s dressing room in the 1999-2000 season.. I always try to watch and learn. Didier Deschamps is an example of the ability to make the right decisions at any moment. He already had that quality and that intelligence as a player, he developed it as a coach. He manages to reinvent himself, integrate new players gradually, with great success”he adds.
Gustavo Poget then referred to Aurélien Chouamine and Gilles Cudet, two players he coached at a very young age at Bordeaux in 2018:
“Their development is spectacular. I’m glad to see them today in Barcelona and Real Madrid. They have already shown a great desire to learn, they are huge professionals”he mentioned and continued speaking in his presence in France, in Grenoble…
“I was very young, I spent seven months alone, without family or friends. But in Grenoble I wasn’t very good on the pitch. I came from Uruguay where everything was good for me, and boom, it was difficult. But it laid the foundations for the rest of my football career. And because it didn’t go very well, I always wanted to go back to France, I had a debt“, he explains.
