While awaiting her debut at Lollapalooza —she is on the lineup for the 2024 edition—, producing her next album and dealing with fame, singer and songwriter Manu Gavassi does not leave her acting side aside. This Thursday (23), she debuts in cinemas “Não Tem Volta”, a comedy full of action and suspense in which she plays a romantic partner with Rafael Infante.

“I felt for a long time that I should be faithful to a category and be good at it. But now I’ve lost that pressure, I’m happy transitioning”, she says in an interview with F5. In the plot, she plays Gabriela, a free and mysterious character — or “authentic, and who wants her own way”, in Manu’s words.

Rafael defines his character, Henrique, as “a guy confused in his affections”. The boy is unable to overcome his separation from Gabriela and, to end his suffering, decides to take his own life. As he doesn’t have the courage to do it alone, he hires a company of hit men who have just one rule: once you sign and pay, you can’t give up.

After signing the contract, Henrique meets Gabriela again by chance, and she discovers that she wants to renew the relationship. Desperate to find out who his executioner will be, the good guy gets involved in tense and crazy situations to save himself.

Despite the several action scenes, the film is mainly a comedy, which makes Manu feel right at home. “This irony is part of me”, says the actress, mentioning the videos released while she was confined to BBB 20 and the web series “Garota Errada”. She says she always knew how to use humor to her advantage by “taking insecurities or not-so-positive things that people said about me and knowing how to turn it around, laugh at myself and make the joke first.”

This is despite being alongside a much more experienced comedian such as Rafael Infante, former Porta dos Fundos and “Vai Que Cola”, colleague of so many Brazilian comedy stars. “I started in a theater group doing improvisation with Fabio Porchat and Tata Werneck”, he remembers. “Weak, this group,” she ironizes.

The two exude chemistry in their scenes together, even though they hide secrets from each other. “That must be why we hated each other. But we had to make the couple happen”, jokes Manu. Without spoiling the fun, suffice it to say that the ending brings major twists and turns for both characters.

“Não Tem Volta” also has names such as Diogo Vilela, Betty Gofman, Roberto Bomtempo, Pietro Barana and Heraldo de Deus in the cast. Directed by César Rodrigues.
