The painter Markos Venios died

by

Markos Venios died, the painter who uniquely rendered the landscapes of the Aegean. Along with his career in painting, he was an official of the Ministry of Culture as a conservator of Works of Art in the Archaeological Service. For the loss of Markos Venios, the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni, sent the following condolence message:

“For several decades, Markos Venios attributed to the canvas, with his personal stamp, the landscapes of the Aegean, the Greek architecture, the beauty of Greek nature. Although self-taught, the tradition of Byzantine painting, the beauty of Ancient Greece, the folk art, illuminated by the splendor of the Aegean, become apparent in his work. Along with his career in painting, Markos Venios was an official of the Ministry of Culture, as a conservator of Works of Art, in the Archaeological Service. One of the important moments of his work in the ministry was the preservation of the exhibits of the Kanellopoulos Museum, in the period 1972-76, a work for which he was awarded a silver goblet. The cause of Markos’ warm and long-standing friendship with George Amyras, until the end of his life, was his experiential relationship with nature. A love that led him to the founding of the Cultural Association “I Folegandros”, but also to his continuous effort for the creation of the first Greek Museum in Greece, in Ano Meria of Folegandros. I hold the best memories of our long-standing friendship with Marco and I express my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. “
