“True Detective” one of HBO’s most beloved series returns for a fourth season as Jodie Foster and Callie Reese find themselves embroiled in a gruesome murder related to a case gone wrong years ago in Alaska.

Written and directed by the Mexican Issa Lopez, the “True Detective: Night Country” centers on detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro (Reese) as they search to solve the case of six men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station when they disappear without a trace one long winter night in Ennis, Alaska. The pair must confront the darkness they carry within and dig into the haunting truths buried beneath the eternal ice.

The trailer released by HBO offers a few more details about the case, revealing a “dirty spiral” from the five-Emmy-winning season one and three.

The impressive cast is completed by Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, John Hawkes and Anna Lambe.

“True Detective: Night Country” is expected on Max from January 14, 2024.
