Made up of 800 women weavers from 20 indigenous communities in the highlands of southern Mexicothe Sna Jolobil Association is dedicated to preserving and revitalizing Mayan art by encouraging its members to study and recreate ancient textiles, natural dyeing methods for wool and cotton, and weaving techniques.

H Sna Jolobilthe oldest active organization of indigenous artisans in Mexico, is featured in the documentary “Dior Metamorphosis (Concealing and Revealing)” which introduces viewers to communities that keep ancestral textile traditions alive and collaborated with Maria Grazia Curie for his cruise collection last May.

Hilán Cruz Cruz, weaver and anthropology student from Tlacomulco, Nahua community, ehe is the co-founder of the workshop Yolcentle which continues a technique with which geometric patterns are formed on shirts and dresses. In the documentary he is shown traveling to the Dior workshops in Paris.

Viewers of the documentary will see the fashion designer search for skilled artisans in the region, choosing mainly from the southern state of Oaxaca well-trained embroiderers, weavers, silversmiths and artists.

Viewers are then taken behind the scenes of the fashion show in Mexico last May. In this tribute to women, Mexico and art, Maria Grazia Curie’s message is that the expertise of cultural heritage in different parts of the world should not be left in the past.
