Alexandre Pires’ businessman, Matheus Possebon, who had been detained by the Federal Police since December 4 for alleged involvement in illegal mining on indigenous lands, was released on Friday night (8). The “manager’s” defense obtained a habeus corpus in the TRF of the 1st Region, in São Paulo, and he has already left prison.
In the appeal, Possebon’s defense claimed that the arrest was illegal and also highlighted that he is also responsible for managing the careers of other artists such as Daniel, Seu Jorge, Munhoz & Mariano and Ana Carolina, a first-time defendant and that there is no evidence or proof that it represents danger or risk to the economic order. The lawyers also promised that Possebon will present himself when called for clarification in court.
To the F5, Possebon’s lawyer, Fábio Tofic Simantob, celebrated the sentence, and said that the decision to arrest him was unreasonable. “I rarely come across such an unreasonable and mistaken decision. Fortunately, the error was corrected in time for Matheus to return to his normal activities”, stated the lawyer.
The decision was taken by judge Maria do Carmo Cardoso. For her, there was an exaggeration in the case, as Possebon has a fixed address, a good criminal record, and always provided clarifications when asked.
“It is noted that the contested decision, despite the volume of information covered, is fragile in terms of proof: the effective risk of repeating the crime, the dangerousness of the agents and the contemporaneity of the measure”, stated the judge.
Possebon and Alexandre Pires are being investigated on suspicion of being part of an illegal mining money laundering scheme in the Yanomami indigenous land, in Roraima.
The businessman was arrested preventively after disembarking from the artist’s themed cruise in Santos (SP). Alexandre Pires ended up being taken to the local Federal Police headquarters, where he provided clarification and was released. The police also went to the artist’s apartment in Itapema, on the north coast of Santa Catarina.
