Boehm: Graham Vick’s iconic stage revival at the National Opera
Giacomo Puccini’s heartbreaking Bohème, the timeless masterpiece, returns seven years after its last performance at the National Opera, under the iconic direction of Graham Vick, a true bohemian of the lyric art who recently passed away. Bohème is based on the novel “Scenes from the Bohemian Life of Henri Murzer” and was first presented in 1896 at the Royal Theater of Turin under the direction of Arturo Toscanini. The story concerns the love between the poet Rodolfo and the dressmaker Mimi against the backdrop of frozen Christmas Paris, from the moment they meet until her death from tuberculosis. With his music, Puccini describes, shockingly conveying to the viewer, the entire palette of emotions: carelessness, joy, great love, despair.
