The inter-ministerial meeting started at 11 Kyriakos Mitsotakis following the incidents that took place at the Olympiakos – Panathinaikos volleyball match on Thursday night that resulted in the serious injury of the 31-year-old police officer from a naval flare who continues to fight for his life.

The meeting is being held with the participation of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Yiannis Oikonomou, the Minister of Justice, Giorgos Floridis, the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yiannis Vroutsis, the Ministers of State Stavros Papastavros and Akis Skertsos and the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Yiannis Bratakos.

The government is concerned about this and it is expected that all scenarios for the possible measures, even the most severe ones, will be put on the table, according to what was reported by the SKAI reporter, Yannis Kantelis. As he said, it is possible that decisions will be made for both the fans and the gates. However, it remains open whether those decisions will be announced today or on Monday.

Speaking on Saturday morning to SKAI and his show George Avtias Pavlos Marinakis and referring to the fan incidents, he pointed out that “we are talking about criminals” and stressed that the government is not going to stand idly by.

“We understand the outrage and we are not going to stand idly by. The Prime Minister had said in August that all this is dynamic, if an outbreak is observed. We want to protect the people who work, the people who are around sports, the fans who want to go with their families to see the game.”

On the occasion of today’s meeting, the government representative pointed out that we should “wait for a Prime Minister and a government that does not mince its words and implements decisions that some have been afraid to implement for decades.”
