Prince Charles will move to Buckingham Palace when he becomes king, while William and Kate may move to Windsor Castle, the Daily Mail reported in an exclusive article, citing unnamed sources.
In recent years there has been a sense that the official royal residence will become more of a workplace rather than a residence for royal members and will be more open to the public.
However, according to the report, the Prince of Wales considers Buckingham to be the symbol of the monarchy in the nation’s capital and should therefore be his home.
“There is no doubt about that,” the Daily Mail source said, adding that His Majesty believes the monarch should be at the helm of the monarchy.
Buckingham Palace is one of the most iconic buildings on the planet. It was originally used as the official residence of the monarchy in London by Queen Victoria in 1837.
It attracts more than 15 million tourists every year.
The 774-room building is currently undergoing a renovation worth 369 million pounds, financed by taxpayers, the publication comments. The electrical wiring, plumbing and heating of the building have not been renewed since the 50’s, while almost all rooms need complete repair.
All members of the royal family, including the Queen, left Buckingham Palace when the colossal renovation operation, which is expected to be completed in 2027, began.
Reports have repeatedly stated that Charles has decided not to move to the Palace when the restoration work is completed and he takes the throne. Daily Mail sources categorically deny these allegations.
“The Prince of Wales will not move to Buckingham Palace until he becomes king. “But when it does, he will definitely do it,” the source said.
