Robbery the motive for the murder of the journalist, Nikos Katsikas

The Egyptian authorities seem to be coming to terms with the robbery case of murder of the journalist and correspondent of APE-MPE, Nikolaos Katsikas.

A food distributor is already in custody and the motive for the murder is estimated to be robbery, according to the online edition of the “Ahram” newspaper, citing a court source.

According to the publication, the food distributor was working in a restaurant and knew the victim. The office of the Giza Prosecutor gave permission for the burial of N. Katsikas, who was found dead, carrying knives, in his apartment in the Sheikh Zayed district of the Giza district of Cairo on Saturday.

“Ahram” refers to the announcement issued by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, excluding the character of the deceased, and noted that the competent Consular Authorities of Greece are in constant contact with the competent Egyptian authorities about the circumstances under which he was found dead.

N. Katsikas was a member of the Athens Daily Newspaper Editors Association (ESIEA) and worked as a correspondent for APE-MPE in Cairo since 2016, while collaborating with ERT, KYPE and RIK.
