I don’t know why I was left out, says Bruno Gissoni about the series starring his brothers

Bruno Gissoni, 36, lived in Los Angeles, United States, for eight years. Therefore, he didn’t have any great fears about the language barrier when the invitation to ‘Rio Connection’ came. Directed by Mauro Lima, the Globoplay series is entirely spoken in English, but when it came to finding out more details about his character… the surprise: it wasn’t enough to master the language, you also needed to have a strong Italian accent.

The character in question is Bruno Leggeri, a mobster from that country and a central figure in the plot set in Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s, where three European criminals established a strategic point in Brazil for heroin trafficking to the United States. “The accent part was the hardest part, thankfully everything worked out in the end,” he says.

Gissoni gets excited when talking about Leggeri. “He is the connection in Rio de Janeiro with everything illegal that will happen in this series. He is a great outlaw”, jokes the actor who, despite his ease with languages, has no intention of investing in an international career. “Today, I don’t think about that. I’m very happy working in my country, bringing characters from my culture to life.”

Interestingly, he recently had the opportunity to join the cast of the series about two icons of contemporary Brazilian music, the series “As Aventuras de José & Durval”, which tells the story of the duo Chitãozinho and Xororó.

Those chosen to play the country people were his two brothers, Rodrigo and Felipe Simas. “I don’t know why I was left out” he admits. “Maybe the two are more similar… My brothers who were chosen and I don’t know why. Regardless of anything, it was a beautiful and well-cast series. They are great on stage and in addition to their admiration as an actor, they have the love of brother. Their success is mine too”, he says.
