‘What do you do to be anti-racist?’, responds to Luísa Sonza when she receives criticism from a fan

As soon as the series “Se Eu Fosse Luísa Sonza” was released this Wednesday (13), the singer became involved in a controversy. Sonza was questioned by a follower, in a critical tone, about the content of the production. In the comments of the video in which she released excerpts from the documentary, the fan asked: “Tell me about the racism you practiced? Lol.”

The comment was posted by Luísa Sonza on her profile and she didn’t take long to respond: “Yes! What about yours? No one is free from the racist structure in which we live! I’ll take advantage and ask you, what do you do to truly be a anti-racist person? Remembering that not doing anything effective to change the system automatically makes you a racist person because you enjoy the privileges without proposing changes to the structure”, wrote Sonza.

The Netflix series has three episodes of 30 minutes each and tells the singer’s entire journey. The production addressed the accusation of racism made against Luísa, in 2020. On that occasion, the singer reportedly asked Isabel Macedo de Jesus, a guest at a guesthouse in Fernando de Noronha, to bring her a glass of water from the pool. The lawyer stated that the interpreter of “A Dona Aranha” and “Iguaria” mistook her for an employee of the establishment because she was black.

Luísa regretted what happened in the series. “I confess that at some point it took me a while to understand this because I am a privileged white person and am subject to this shitty and stupid structure,” she explained. “I became aware of everything, in terms of allying myself with the anti-racist cause, understanding my responsibility as a white person, seeking to invest in the anti-racist cause,” she said.
