Cora Karvouni belongs to the category of “chameleon actors”, i.e. those who transform from role to role, receiving the reward of those who watch them. This year, she plays Nina Augustakis in the SKAI drama series, “Oi Pantheoi”, and she speaks exclusively to skai.gr about the end of the separation of actors. He also reveals some of the developments that we will see soon and some of the plans he has in mind…
What do you think of the current TV season?
It is a very rich season where many period works have been selected. Personally, I miss a contemporary and to naturally participate in it because I am interested in television and being entertained through it. Beyond that, there are plenty of great series and you really don’t know what to watch first…
The majority of series are made up of excellent contributors and offer an even result.
The productions now have more money and select collaborators, many great actors that we haven’t seen on TV for years. For example, the fact that I will see George Center on TV is a cosmic event and I am looking forward to it. It is important that such great actors, who could only be seen in the theater, be given the opportunity to the general public who cannot go to the theater or come to Athens to see them.
Did this shift take place both on the part of the actors and especially after the years of necessary confinement, as well as the executives at the channels?
The turn was started by everyone. The so-called separation of so many years between the alleged theater actor and the alleged TV-commercial actor has, thankfully, disappeared. Now the producers and executives of the channels are oriented towards the actors who are not so well known but have a great career in the theater and at the same time the same actors have started to trust more in their abilities and themselves to enter a daily or semi – daily series.
What are the motivations for responding positively to a proposal?
For me it is more important who the partners will be than what project we will do and the role. I believe that the work we do is about people and I want to have a good time with people who have the same visions, the same love and passion for work. You know, we are “building” a team that works 10 hours a day and we are called upon for a year to produce a very large volume of work.
Did you find the above package in SKAI’s drama series, “The Pantheons”?
Of course. A sensational group of actors has been chosen who are the best of each other and at the same time we have two crews surrounded by people who are very capable and with an appetite for work as well as three amazing directors. What can I say about the sets that are gorgeous, the costumes so well chosen, the hairdos, the makeup? It is a properly structured production and that is why so many people see it. Really, I don’t believe in the viewing figures because I live another reality on the street. Many people talk to me about “Pantheus”.
You play Nina Augustakis who is a dynamic woman and quite ahead for her time. To what extent do you identify with her character?
I generally play strong women but what I like about Nina is the quality she has as a person. She wants to get along with everyone and at the same time is an amazing gossip. She knows everyone and everything since her hotel is a center for passers-by. Therefore, Nina not only supervises but knows everyone’s history. Even with the love triangle he knows about, he doesn’t take an open position. He sympathizes with them all.
Does she sympathize with them because she sees parts of herself through them?
Exactly. Nina knows from love and is a good person. She loves Marmo very much because she is her friend, she is unmarried and has never experienced anything like this before, she sympathizes with Kitso but also hurts for Andreas who is her friend and her husband’s. From there, he does not intervene in a way that will lead the developments but more softly and lets everyone make their choices and pay for them of course…
We see that Nina and Lucas have started the procedures to adopt Spirto – Spyros. Will the story have a happy ending?
Nina and Lukas, just before the war broke out, are sailing in a sea of happiness. Especially since Spirtos agrees to adopt him, they start the procedures for his adoption with all this paperwork. This development changes the couple’s life and gives them what they have been missing.
Does Nina, once she becomes the little boy’s stepmother, stop her extramarital affairs?
Since Spirtos has entered her life, Nina has stopped all romantic adventures as she takes the pills she used to take with alcohol. Now, she has found a major interest in her life, she has a child to raise.
Is there anything that can shake her friendship with Marmo?
The truth is, I can’t imagine anything that could shake, break up their friendship. They love and respect each other very much.
Will Andreas and Lucas find out about Nina’s cover-up for Marmos and Kitsu’s illicit relationship? If so, how will they react?
If this is found out, Andreas will be very angry with Nina but not necessarily with Lukas because they both have a very nice friendship. The same is not true, however, for Nina and Andreas, whose trust is disturbed.
From the scripts you have so far in your hands, does something like this appear for the friendship of Nina and Andreas?
No thanks (Laughs). You know, I really like their friendship, I love it and I wouldn’t want it to break at all. Whatever Nina did, she didn’t do it out of malice or to betray Andreas but out of compassion for her friend, Marmo.
Will Nina understand Marmaris’ dark role and the dangers that lie ahead?
I hope yes. She suspects him to be a dark personality since learning that he keeps changing identities and almost wanted to kick him out of the hotel. Nevertheless, he is patient and scouts the situation while seeing that there is a kind of treatment of Pella by the man.
Will he react?
He certainly won’t go completely overboard but he will advise her…
You are present on television, but the same is not true in the theater, although in the summer you starred in “Hippolytos”. Do you miss the smell of the closed theater?
Not at all (Laughs). Look you see, I am an actress who has played a lot of theater, very nice roles and rich people. It’s hard to do theater every night. It’s painful. It is a daily live in front of the audience and it takes a lot of discipline and a constant renewal so that the performance is not factory. So since I spent several months rehearsing for “Hippolytus” in combination with the filming of the previous series (including “This Night Remains”) that I was playing and at the same time “The Pantheons” was starting, I don’t miss anything. I’m full. Also, it’s a conscious decision to only do TV. If I chose to do TV and theater, I wouldn’t have a personal life either, so you have no personal time and never a day off.
What are your next steps?
I would like to continue doing TV because I feel like I haven’t done enough and I really like it. At the same time, I would like to direct in the theater and not necessarily act.
Do you believe in timing?
I believe in timing and luck. We usually have in our lives what we can afford to have. Life brings everything for a reason and I don’t like to push it. She has her own magical way of meandering and I just follow her making my own moves. I don’t rest but I’m not pushy either.
