Last week, France’s culture minister said the actor’s behavior had disgraced France and said he could be stripped of the Legion of Honor
A French museum removed a wax figure of the actor, Gerard Depardieufollowing allegations of rape and sexual assault.
The Grevin museum removed the wax figure after negative reactions from visitors passing by.
The French star was under judicial investigation on suspicion of rape and sexual assault in 2020.
Depardieu was also accused in April of sexually assaulting or harassing 13 women. He has strongly denied all the charges.
The actor’s wax figure has been on display at the museum since 1981. The museum management said there have been negative comments on social media about the wax figure.
A television documentary released in December featured footage of the actor making lewd and sexist comments about women, which brought the allegations back into the spotlight and reignited a debate about sexism in French cinema.
In footage apparently taken from the making of the documentary, the actor repeatedly embarrasses his female interpreter with comments such as “I weigh 124 kg. No erection. With an erection, I’m 126 kg.”

Paris prosecutors are also investigating the death of actress Emmanuelle Debever, who had accused the actor of sexual assault. Prosecutors said the cause of her death is being investigated because of “media reports about allegations she made against the actor in 2019 when she claimed on Facebook that Depardieu had molested her while they were filming Danton in 1982.” . There are no indications that a crime has been committed.
Last Sunday, Depardieu’s family said there was an “unprecedented conspiracy” against him.
The Oscar and Bafta nominated actor is known for films such as ‘Jean de Florette’, ‘Green Card’ and ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’.
Depardieu was one of approximately 250 French and international figures represented at the Grevin Museum. Although there is no court decision against the actor, it seems that – apart from the museum – other institutions have distanced themselves from the actor in recent days.
On Saturday, a Belgian municipality stripped Depardieu of the title of honorary mayor, several days after the Canadian province of Quebec also revoked a similar honor over his anti-women comments.
Last week, France’s culture minister said the actor’s behavior had disgraced France and said he could be stripped of the Legion of Honor, the country’s top award.
