Movie star Cameron Diaz has an opinion on how couples should sleep. The actress said on her ‘Lipstick on the Rim’ podcast that “we should ‘normalize’ separate bedrooms,” while discussing her marriage to Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden, who she called “awesome.”

We have the family home in the middle. I will go and sleep in my room. You will go to sleep in your room. I’m fine with that“, said the actress smiling.

As CNN writes, more and more couples are considering the benefits of a sleep “divorce” or using two separate bedrooms to maximize their sleep quality.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Preventionbeing deprived of seven to eight hours of sleep each night is linked to a higher risk of diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular disease and dementia.

There is also an emotional burden, according to experts. Sleep deprivation can affect key aspects of relationship functioning, such as your mood, your frustration level, your tolerance, your empathy, and your ability to communicate with your partner and other important people in your life.

Poor sleep—and the resulting bad mood—makes people less able to cope with minor adversity. “Sleep buddies” are often the ones who spot the signs of sleep disorders and encourage their loved ones to see a doctor or sleep specialist. Undiagnosed sleep disorders may well harm your and your partner’s future health.
