How to start your day calmly – 33 tips

You drink water. You make coffee. You get your vitamins. You feed your pets. Yes, this is a morning routine that you may be comfortable with and accustomed to, but is it one that will make you start your day calm? A calm that will follow you throughout your day?

If you want to start your day with more awareness, here are 33 ways to get ideas.

  1. Most morning routine suggestions include meditation, and rightly so. It calms the mind and allows you a moment of presence in the now before you start the day. You can also practice meditation using one of the dozens of applications available on the internet.
  2. Spread your favorite body oil over your arms and legs, with a special emphasis on dry areas such as your elbows, knees and ankles.
  3. Prepare your favorite hot drink and go out on the balcony to see the sunrise. As the light rises, think of all the opportunities you have today to start your day.
  4. Take a warm bath as soon as you get out of bed.
  5. Read a few pages of something that inspires you for the day — perhaps fiction, poetry, or an autobiography. You can set a goal for how many pages you will read or just set a timer for ten minutes as a way to read a little each day.
  6. Drink a cup of warm water with a few drops of lemon and a few spoonfuls of honey.
  7. Write on a piece of paper what you expect to do during the day.
  8. Deal with a crossword puzzle or sudoku but not online, the old-fashioned way, on paper. This helps your brain to wake up with a toy.
  9. Or you can even put together a few pieces of a puzzle.
  10. Plan your day as best you can, if it helps.
  11. Make a list of three things you like about yourself (you can write them down on paper or just think about them).
  12. Call your girlfriend, your parents or your grandparents just to say good morning.
  13. Sit in your living room for a while without doing anything at all and enjoy the absolute silence.
  14. Join a travel company and plan your next trip, albeit virtually.
  15. Make a note of your small victories yesterday.
  16. Make a playlist for the day, depending on your mood.
  17. Go for a morning walk, or a run.
  18. Check yourself. Do you like where you are now physically, mentally, emotionally? You do not need to change anything right now. Just to observe.
  19. Do stretching.
  20. After stretching, massage yourself.
  21. Make your bed with clean sheets and pillowcases.
  22. Learn a new word every day from whatever language you like.
  23. Put on your favorite song and dance to it.
  24. Put on sunscreen before going out.
  25. Give yourself the gift of a short breath exercise.
  26. Find a simple morning routine that energizes you — focus on how your face feels, not what it’s supposed to do.
  27. Start a diary with those dreams of yours that you consider elusive.
  28. Drink a chamomile, put the bag for 10 minutes in the refrigerator and then in your eyes for the immediate fight against dark circles.
  29. Go for a walk in your neighborhood and buy yourself some flowers.
  30. Draw something you have in mind.
  31. Prepare a natural juice and enjoy it straight away, without any distractions.
  32. Make a folder on your cell phone with the photos that make you smile and look there every morning.
  33. Most importantly, I follow the needs of your body.
