The trailer of Giuseppe Tornatore’s documentary for legendary Italian film score composer, Ennio Morricone released ahead of its February 9, 2024 release in select US theaters.

Ennio follows Morricone’s career from his early work on Italian director Sergio Leone’s films to his first Oscar win for Quentin Tarantino’s 2016 film The Hateful Eight.

The late composer, who died in 2020, tells his own story in the documentary.

Morricone’s portrait is supplemented by interviews with several of his collaborators and contemporaries, including Clint Eastwood, Quentin Tarantino and Bruce Springsteen. Oliver Stone, Hans Zimmer, Bernardo Bertolucci, Joan Baez and others also talk about the composer.

Morricone and Tornatore had a long history of collaboration, starting with the 1988 film Cinema Paradiso. Since then, Morricone has gone on to write music for all of Tornatore’s subsequent films, including the score for his film Legend of 1900 1998 with which he won a Golden Globe.

The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in July 2021 before Music Box Films acquired US distribution rights last November, has already garnered positive reviews from critics.
