In the show “Mismatches”, with Yiannis Dsounos and Christos Koutras, on SKAIthe well-known director was found, Yannis Smaragdiswho spoke about his new cinematic vision, the film he is preparing for Ioannis Kapodistrias.

“I’m standing, I don’t have enough bullets”Mr. Smaragdis said with a smile when asked by the presenters if he is in a good mood.

The first part of the shooting was completed last weekwith Antonis Myriagos in the leading role and the participation of many more actors, including Maximos Moumouris, Pavlos Kontogiannidis, Tasos Chalkias, Mary Vidalis, Panos Skouroliakos, etc., while foreign actors will also participate.

“We are waiting for the snows to come now, because we have some scenes related to the period when Kapodistrias was the foreign minister of Russia. And then, weather and money permitting, we’ll finish the film and this time next year the film will be playing“, emphasized the well-known director.

Having already presented in the past cinematic approaches to great personalities of Greece, such as Kazantzakis, El Greco and Cavafis, Yannis Smaragdis is now in the creative realization of a biographical film that was a lifelong dream for him.

In the film “Kapodistrias”, Mr. Smaragdis vividly outlines the profile of the first Governor of Greece after its liberation from the Ottomans, telling the story of his life.

“The filming is done in parts, because I want to cover different eras,” he explained. “We have already secured the premiere of the film in New York, at the Museum of Modern Art. Kazantzakis also played there, so a positive aura accompanies us for this film as well.”

Mr. Smaragdis spoke about the only difficulty he has faced so far, regarding the shooting of the film, which is none other than money.

“The script has been written 52 times, in fact the last correction, as in all my works, was done by my wife, Eleni, before she passed away. This movie is my gift to my wife. It is dedicated to her. I became a person and a director because of her. Cinema is “expensive” Art, so money is needed. The money will be found, because there are always good Greeks who help. Two people defined my life, who are no longer with us: my wife Eleni and Vangelis Papathanasiou, who had written music for two of my films without taking any money”added the well-known director.
