The famous singer Ellie Goulding speaking on the show BBC Radio 4’s Todaysaid the music industry now has better protections for young artists than when she started her career in 2010. She admitted she had felt “uncomfortable” working in studios with male producers.

“I definitely think the landscape has changed a little bit, especially after the MeToo movement”said the singer, adding that her own record company now has accompanists for young artists.

“I think it’s been really important for people to continue to reveal their personal stories because I know there was a lot going on and they just weren’t talking about it.”he added.

Asked if she herself had felt vulnerable while working in a recording studio, she said: “I’ve had experiences that, in my mind, I kind of smoothed over and thought, ‘Maybe this is just something.'”.

And it continues: “You know like when you walk into a studio and then the producer asks you if you want to go for a drink. And I’m quite a nice person, I don’t like to let people down. So I was like, “Yeah, sure, let’s go for a drink.” And then somehow it was becoming romantic, when it shouldn’t be.”.

In trying to figure out if it was her fault and hearing similar stories from other female musicians “I realized I was not alone in this at all. It wasn’t just me who was particularly friendly”.

“It was kind of unheard of when you were working with male producers, that was almost like an expectation, which sounds crazy for me to say out loud, and it certainly wouldn’t happen now. I mean, very rarely, because things have really changed“, ends up.
