The Municipality of Athens invites us all to celebrate the brightest night of the year with two explosive concerts in Syntagma Square, but also with an upbeat New Year’s party in Varvakeio!
On New Year’s Eve, the Municipality of Athens welcomes 2024 with optimism and joy, inviting us to a great celebration full of music, dance and glitter! On Sunday, December 31st, Syntagma Square will once again be transformed into the most ideal setting to welcome the new year, as it will host two separate concerts with protagonists Nikos Portokaloglou and Marina Satti, and all of us as guests!
At the New Year’s celebration in Syntagma Square that will start at 10:00 p.m. with Christmas tunes from the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, the hosts will be Nancy Zampetoglou and Thanasis Anagnostopoulos.
The favorite television duo of ERT1’s “Studio 4” will welcome on stage the new Mayor of Athens Haris Doukas, who a few seconds before midnight will give the signal for the traditional countdown of the change of time, where fireworks will light up the Attic sky welcoming 2024 with a bang.
“As we welcome 2024, together we open a new chapter for Athens” said the new Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas. “With optimism and solidarity, we begin the creation of a greener, friendlier and more humane Athens, a city that unites and inspires, and that will leave a positive legacy for future generations.”
No one will miss the celebratory evening prepared by the Municipality of Athens for the reception of 2024, as those who cannot make it to the Syntagma will have the opportunity to enjoy it through ERT1, which will broadcast the whole thing live from 22:55 of the artists’ show. Sofia Roboli will be there undertaking the parallel performance of the 2024 reception event in Greek Sign Language.
Two separate concerts welcome 2024 explosively!
Nikos Portokaloglou, one of the leading musicians and songwriters of our country, will present a musical performance based on his most favorite songs but also on bold combinations of Greek and foreign iconic songs, in the special way he does it on the successful TV show of ERT1 “Music Box” , where he shares original arrangements of favorite songs with his select guests. He will be joined on stage by Vicky Karatzoglou, one of the youngest recognizable genuine folk voices, Byron Tsourapis, a faithful companion of Nikos Portokaloglou in his live performances, and also the dynamic band “Noble Vagabonds” with Thanasis Tsakirakis, Ilias Lampropoulos, Alexandros Zouganelis and Katerina Liaki.
The popular singer and representative of Greece in Eurovision 2024, Marina Satti, will also give her own stamp to the evening. with her pop, mainstream and ethnic rhythms, presenting a musical show with the stamp of her unique aesthetic. Through subversive approaches and unexpected experimentation with pop and urban elements, the unique artist who never stops surprising us will take us with her great band into her addictive musical universe. From “Mantissa” to her YENNA and from the whole range of traditional Balkan music to trap, the ever-modern Marina Satti will stir us up with drums, dulcimer, polyphonic alchemies, bagpipes, beats and sensuality until the early hours of 2024 !
Party until the morning in Varvakeio!
At the same time, from 11:00 p.m., this New Year’s Eve, Varvakeios Agora turns into the ultimate New Year’s dance floor! The Municipality of Athens and Street Outdoors invite us to the biggest and most special NYE party in the city, where renowned DJs and producers take over the decks and distribute upbeat music for dancing until the morning.
