More than a hundred independent artists and curators are currently exhibiting their works in the building of the Consulate General of Greece in New York, under the umbrella of the art project “Occupy # 3-Networks” which will also be hosted at the Consulate General of France in New York.

The artistic “occupation” on the floors of the Greek consulate was inaugurated on 9/2, honoring the celebration of World Greek Language Day, inspiring employees and visitors, not in a museum but in the workplace.

The visual “activism” of the artists of the exhibition is a product of a collaborative effort of the Occupy Art Project team and will “occupy” from 17/2 the French Consulate General in New York, projecting a new perspective on art networks and new patterns in the modern expression of creation.

Responsible for the project and coordinator is the artist Irini Linardaki, while the curation was done by a group of actors, consisting of Shani Ha, Julien Gardair, François-Thibaut Pencenat and Eleni Riga.

“The effort of the artists is based on the proof that as actors of the arts they express our time, they realize the responsibilities that are born especially from our presence in the communities, from our universal need to belong and to share. The supervision of the works was guided by the daily interaction between the exhibits and the staff of the consulates “, note the organizers.

In particular, the exhibition promotes initiatives that respond to socio-political change, activism approaches, works of art that aim to change hierarchies and provide more representation and accessibility to artistic minorities (artists, immigrants, parents, artists). The exhibition is subversive, as it is the step for creating a map of initiatives and promotion of art networks and artists who challenge, explore and create new examples in contemporary and public art “.

At the Greek opening of the exhibition, the Greek consul in New York, Dr. Konstantinos Koutras and his French counterpart Jeremy Rober said in a joint message: “We are very proud to host this exhibition at the Consulates General of Greece and France in New York. Led by independent artists and curators, this work aims to transform public space through art in a very comprehensive way. It is also an occasion to remind the Greek and French communities, our European and American friends that our doors are always open to them. So, enjoy this unique exhibition! “

The opening of the exhibition was honored by the presence of Consuls General of other countries in New York, many artists, the American public, as well as representatives of the Greek Diaspora and Hellenes Abroad. The exhibition “Occupy # 3-Networks” will be open to the public for a month.
