Canada is the safest country to travel to in 2024, according to a list by travel insurer Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP).

In its report, the company explains that Canada ranks at the top of the list of countries that are safe to travel to thanks to its cool temperatures and low population density.

“Violent crime is comparatively low and the incidence of gun-related crime is limited,” the report said.

However, the main danger that tourists should be aware of is wildfires. “Most of Canada’s forests have burned, which has reduced air quality in most major Canadian cities,” the report says. “This has made travel to Canada difficult for people with respiratory conditions.”

The 15 safest countries for travel 2024, according to Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection are:

– Canada

– Switzerland

– Norway

– Ireland

– Netherlands

– United Kingdom

– Portugal

– Denmark

– Iceland

– Australia

– New Zealand

– Japan

– France

– Spain

– Brazil

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection clarifies that the list was compiled based on responses to the questions which countries are “largely free of terrorist activity” and “safe from disease outbreaks,” as well as more modern questions such as “where are all allowed types of people to be able to move freely without discrimination or harassment’.

The company has a long history of safe destination surveys, which are based on responses from travelers visiting countries over the past five years and other indicators and information, including the Global Peace Index and State Department travel safety ratings.
