Sofia Vergara says she ended her marriage because she didn’t want to be an ‘old mother’

Actress Sofia Vergara, 51, revealed details about her recent split. In July, she and Joe Manganiello, 47, announced they were separating after seven years of marriage. The divorce decision was amicable, but now she reveals the reason for this breakup.

“My marriage ended because my husband was younger. He wanted to have children and I didn’t want to be an old mother. I think it’s not fair to the baby,” she told El País.

The actress from the Netflix series “Griselda” had a son at the age of 19, who is currently 32 years old. “I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. I’m almost through menopause. It’s the natural way of things. When my son becomes a father, I’ll keep the baby for a while and then I’ll give it back and move on with my life,” she added.

The news of the separation came at a time when the actress was in Italy celebrating her 51st birthday with friends. Manganiello’s absence from the event sparked speculation, especially after a cryptic post on his Instagram account, in which he simply wrote “Congratulations, Sofia”.

Sofia and Joe tied the knot in November 2015 in a ceremony held in Palm Beach, in the presence of more than 400 guests.

The speech comes at a time when Sofia and Netflix are being sued by the family of Griselda Blanco, a Colombian drug trafficker who became known as the “godmother of cocaine” due to the series “Griselda”.

According to TMZ, Griselda’s children, as representatives of the estate, are alleging the unauthorized use of the family’s image and stories in the series.
