The famous skirt worn by Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in the opening credits of the TV series “Sex and the City” has been sold by Julien’s auction house for $52,000. It is the second highest amount raised in this particular auction titled ‘Unstoppable: Signature Styles of Iconic Women in Fashion’.

A black velvet dress handmade by Kathryn Walker for Princess Diana, as well as the Givenchy couture ensemble Grace Kelly chose for her 1961 meeting with President John F. Kennedy and Jackie fetched the highest price when sold, the each for $325,000.

The winning bid for Carrie’s famous skirt was one of the most shocking moments of the auction, as it topped the original high estimate of $12,000.

As People reports, the white tutu was purchased for $5 by costume designer Patricia Field when she was shopping for clothes for the series in the New York area shortly before the premiere on HBO in 1998.
